In the 19th Century Rumney Village housed the Rumney Distillery as well as dozens of other expressions of creativity and vision. The Village soon gave rise to Rumney Road. But somewhere along the way, a mistake was made at City Hall. The ‘U’ in Rumney was incorrectly changed to an ‘O’ and Rumney Street became Romney Street. A simple error may have changed the name, but it didn’t change the spirit. Today Romney Street is still home to historic Charleston charm as well as modern hot spots and conveniences.
